Electronic Payment Device
The point-of-sale (POS) transactions rose by 35% to SAR 9.88 billion in the week ending March 6, 2021, from SAR 7.34 billion in the previous week, reaching its highest level in nine weeks, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that a total of 91.2 million transactions were processed in the week ending March 6, the highest since the start of monitoring weekly POS operations in May 2020.

The POS of all sectors grew during the week ending March 6, led by the education sector, which rose by 84% through sales of SAR 134.6 million, followed by telecommunications sector and clothes and footwear, with a 69% and 54% increase, respectively.
Consumer spending focused on food & beverages sector during the same week, valued at nearly SAR 1.73 billion, followed by restaurants and cafes sector with SAR 1.05 billion and the miscellaneous goods & services sector with SAR 884.8 million.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value with nearly SAR 3 billion, representing 30% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with over SAR 1.56 billion.
