POS transactions up 4% to SAR 8.82 bln in week ending March 27: SAMA

The point-of-sale (POS) transactions increased by 4% to SAR 8.82 billion in the week ending March 27, 2021, from SAR 8.46 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.

 

Data showed that a total of 86.6 million transactions were processed in the week ending March 27.

Most of the sectors witnessed a rise in POS during the week ending March 27, led by hotels, which rose by 12% through sales of SAR 129.4 million. It was followed by food & beverages and clothes & footwear sectors, with 11% and 9% increase, respectively.

 

On the other hand, POS operations in the education sector decreased by 9% to reach SAR 61.8 million.

 

Consumer spending focused on food & beverages sector during the week, valued at nearly SAR 1.40 billion, followed by restaurants and cafes sector with sales of SAR 1.09 billion and clothes & footwear sector with SAR 764.5 million in sales.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value with nearly SAR 2.83 billion, representing 32% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with over SAR 1.44 billion.
