The point-of-sale (POS) transactions rose by 29% to SAR 11.4 billion in the week ending April 3, 2021, from SAR 8.82 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that a total of 101.6 million transactions were processed in the week ending April 3.

Most of the sectors witnessed a rise in POS during the week ending April 3, led by education, which leapt by 110% through sales of SAR 130.1 million. It was followed by telecommunications and clothes & footwear sectors, with 44% and 11% increase, respectively.
Consumer spending focused on food & beverages sector during the week, valued at nearly SAR 1.93 billion, followed by restaurants and cafes sector with sales of SAR 1.32 billion and clothes & footwear sector with SAR 1.08 billion in sales.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value with nearly SAR 3.46 billion, representing 30% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with over SAR 1.86 billion.
