Installation of Saudi Electricity’s smart meter
Saudi Electricity Co. (SEC) completed the installation and replacement of more than 10 million smart electric meters, as a part of its smart metering project, which was completed within 13 months.
The mechanical electrical meters were replaced with smart meters across all the Kingdom’s regions, at no cost to the subscriber, the company said in a statement.
About 4 million smart meters were manufactured locally, representing 40% of the project’s total meters.
The Saudi-listed firm affirmed that all meters have been approved by the Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization (SASO), in accordance with the procedures followed by the National Legal Calibration Program (standardization).
Fahad Al-Sudairi, CEO of Saudi Electricity Co., said that the subscriber will gradually see the benefits and services provided by the smart meter.
He added that the smart meters and their technical and communication systems are resistant to different climatic conditions and are compatible with the best technical specifications and local and international standards.
The smart metering project represents the company's most important project towards digital transformation and the core of its strategy aimed at improving the level of services, the CEO highlighted.
In addition, it is a promising project towards a comprehensive national development to a prosperous future, Al-Sudairi concluded.
