The point-of-sale (POS) transactions fell by 18% to SAR 8.2 billion in the week ending April 17, 2021, from SAR 10 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that a total of 81.6 million transactions were processed in the week ending April 17.

All sectors witnessed a decline in POS during the week ending April 17, led by hotels, which fell by 48% through sales amounting to SAR 84.4 million. It was followed by restaurants and cafes that fell by 37%.
Consumer spending focused on food and beverages sector during the week, valued at nearly SAR 1.69 billion, followed by restaurants and cafes with sales of SAR 757.2 million and clothes and footwear with SAR 692.6 million.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value with nearly SAR 2.53 billion, representing 31% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with over SAR 1.31 billion.
