The point-of-sale (POS) transactions fell by 11% to SAR 7.3 billion in the week ending April 24, 2021, from SAR 8.2 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that a total of 72.2 million transactions were processed in the week ending April 24.

Most of the sectors witnessed a decline in POS during the week ending April 24, led by food and beverages, which fell by 33%. It was followed by education that fell by 14%.
Consumer spending focused on food and beverages sector during the week, valued at nearly SAR 1.13 billion, followed by clothes and footwear with sales of SAR 820.3 million and restaurants and cafes with SAR 662.4 million.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value with nearly SAR 2.3 billion, representing 31% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with over SAR 1.22 billion.
