The point-of-sale (POS) transactions rose by 47% to SAR 10.7 billion in the week ending May 1, 2021, from SAR 7.3 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that a total of 91.8 million transactions were processed in the week ending May 1.

All sectors witnessed a rise in POS during the week ending May 1, led by clothes and footwear, which surged by 98%. It was followed by jewelry that leapt by 83%.
Higher sales in these sectors during this week coincides with the preparations for Eid Al-Fitr.
Consumer spending focused on clothes and footwear sector during the week, valued at nearly SAR 1.62 billion, followed by food and beverages with sales of SAR 1.52 million and restaurants and cafes with SAR 933.1 million.
