The hike in the international airfare coincided with the summer season, Okaz newspaper reported, citing the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) spokesman Ibrahim Al-Rusa.

Accordingly, GACA adopted a free-market policy to encourage competition.

Tickets prices are expected to witness a gradual decrease after the regularity and increase in flights, Al-Rusa said, adding that GACA closely monitors the matter since it issues indicators and classifications periodically from carriers and airports, including ticket prices.

He indicated that the growth would undoubtedly be upward, adding tickets prices do not constitute the main motive for travel.
