Saudi Arabia’s Transport General Authority announced the dates of implementing the decision to issue car rental contracts through the “Tajeer” portal and the obligation of all car rental facilities to adopt the unified electronic contract issued through the portal.

The authority said in a statement that these decisions will be implemented in four stages, as follows:

- Rental facilities that fall under category (D) and the ones that are licensed but are uncategorized and the facilities that conclude contracts manually will be obligated with the above decisions starting July 25, 2021

- Rental facilities that fall category © will be obligated with the above decisions starting Sept. 1, 2021

- Dates for the facilities that fall under categories (A) and (B) - third and fourth phases - will be determined later

The authority indicated that the decision stems from its regulatory and legislative roles in the Kingdom’s transport sector and comes as part of its efforts to upgrade the car rental segment, supporting sectors such as tourism, entertainment and business.

The car rental segment includes more than 300,000 vehicles, the authority said, adding nearly 22,000 jobs in the segment have been nationalized.
