The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) announced that there will be no exceptions for applying e-invoicing to taxpayers, Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper reported.
During the e-invoicing regulation workshop, ZATCA added that the issuance of e-invoices in the first phase will be through any electronic format preferred by the taxpayer, whether an application, program, or system, while the electronic formats will be determined in the second integration phase in 2023.
The authority earlier announced the application of e-invoicing in two phases. The first phase –the issuance - will enter into mandatory implementation as of Dec. 4, 2021 and will require all taxpayers subject to the e-invoicing regulations to issue and save invoices electronically through an e-system compatible with the authority’s systems.
It added that the second phase – the integration - will be implemented in a phased manner as of Jan. 1, 2023, as it will consolidate integration between the systems of the authority and taxpayers. Moreover, this phase requires adherence to the technical specifications of the second phase of e-invoicing, according to data compiled by Argaam.
