The point-of-sale (POS) transactions declined by 7% to SAR 8.88 billion in the week ending June 12, from SAR 9.50 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that a total of 100.4 million transactions were processed in the week ending June 12.
POS transactions represent what is spent by consumers using their ATM cards and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

The POS transactions of most sectors dropped during the week ending June 12, with the exception of fuel stations which rose 1%.
The education sector fell by 27% through sales of SAR 57.3 million, followed by recreation & culture and telecommunications (10% each).
Consumer spending focused on food & beverages sector during the week, valued at nearly SAR 1.34 billion, followed by restaurants & cafes sector with SAR 1.27 billion and the miscellaneous goods & services sector with SAR 814.4 million.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value with nearly SAR 2.73 billion, representing 31% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.43 billion.
