Saudi Arabia’s new transport and logistics strategy aims to enhance diversification and integration among transport lines through airports, railways, roads and ports, Bashar AlMalik, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Saudi Railway Co. (SAR), said.

This will be attained through comprehensive development under certain standards, mainly safety, enhanced efficiency and improved customer services.

The Saudi 5,330-kilometer railways network transports nearly 3 million passengers annually and over 18 million tons of freight. By 2025, SAR targets the transportation of 25 million passengers and over 36 million tons of freight, he added in a press conference held today.

To date, locomotives transported nearly 60 million tons of metals since the launch of service. This contributed to removing more than 4.5 million trucks from roads. It also helped reduce road accidents and death rates by 50% in the past four years, AlMalik concluded.
