Payment by credit card through a POS device
The point-of-sale (POS) transactions rose by 29% to SAR 10.75 billion in the week ending July 3, from SAR 8.36 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that a total of 111.3 million transactions were processed in the week ending July 3.
POS transactions represent what is spent by consumers using their ATM cards and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

All sectors witnessed an increase in POS during the last week, led by telecommunications, and clothes and footwear, which rose 54% and 46%, respectively. Education followed with a 41% rise to SAR 59.5 million.
Consumer spending focused on food and beverages sector during the week, valued at nearly SAR 1.7 billion, followed by restaurants & cafes with sales of SAR 1.41 billion and miscellaneous goods & services with SAR 1.05 billion.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value with nearly SAR 3.21 billion, representing 30% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.70 billion.
