Minister of Environment signs Buraydah 2, Tabuk 2, Al Madinah 3 sewage treatment plants agreement

Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al Fadley, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture and Chairman of Saudi Water Partnership Co. (SWPC), signed today, Sept. 26, the agreements of Buraydah 2, Tabuk 2 and Al Madinah 3 independent sewage treatment plants (ISTPs). 
 

Buraydah 2 and Tabuk 2 projects will be established in Qassim and Tabuk provinces with a capacity of 150,000 and 90,000 cubic meters/day, respectively. Al Madinah 3 ISTP will be established with a capacity of 200,000 cubic meters/day, extendable to 375,000 cubic meters/day, according to SPA. 
 

The projects, which were tendered under the BOOT system, received bids from 26 Saudi firms, nine of which were qualified.

The winning bid was selected after competition among three consortiums, which included six local firms and three international firms, said Khalid Al-Qurashi, CEO of SWPC.  
 

He added that Buraydah 2 and Tabuk 2 ISTPs will start operations in the second quarter of 2024.  
 

According to Argaam's data, Saudi Arabian Amiantit Co. and Saudi Industrial Services Co. (SISCO) announced that the best-bidder consortium was awarded, on Aug. 25, the Madinah 3, Buraydah 2 and Tabuk 2 ISTPs by SWPC.

The winning consortium comprises Amiantit’s 50%-owned subsidiary, International Water Distribution Co. (TAWZEA) with a 35% stake, Spanish firm Acciona (35%) and Tamasuk (30%).  
 

SISCO and Amiantit own 50% of TAWZEA’s capital, which amounts to SAR 146 million.
