Oppenheim Architecture will soon unveil two new hotels in The Red Sea Project, in addition to the Desert Rock Resort, the company’s Founder Chad Oppenheim told Argaam in a telephone interview.

Desert Rock is comprised of 48 villas – 39 one-bedroom and nine two-bedroom – and 12 hotels rooms. Villas are located 180-280 meters above sea level.

The project design was completed in one year. The project echoes ancient Nabatean civilizations that once lived in the region. The planned units will be built to match the project’s natural landscape, without distracting visitors from the surrounding environment.

Indoor and outdoor spaces are located within crevices and caves, or on shaded slopes, utilizing the cooler microclimates and minimizing solar gain, Oppenheim explained.

Designs will be environment friendly. Nearly 54,000 square meters (sqm) of land will be excavated for groundwork at the mountain resort.

In addition, the material excavated from the site will be used to create the infrastructure. Stone will be used for interior and exterior walls and floors.

Meanwhile, the stone and sand at site will be used for concrete aggregate, which is the main construction material.

The Desert Rock architecture was designed to reduce energy consumption and regenerate native flora. Water retention and distribution systems will be used throughout the site, with harvested rainwater used to create a more green, flourishing landscape.

Upon completion in 2030, The Red Sea Project will comprise 50 resorts, offering up to 8,000 hotel rooms and more than 1,000 residential properties across 22 islands and six inland sites. The destination will also include luxury marinas, golf courses, entertainment, leisure facilities and an international airport, Argaam reported.
