POS transactions hit SAR 9.16 bln in week ending Oct. 9: SAMA

The point-of-sale (POS) transactions amounted to SAR 9.16 billion in the week ending Oct. 9, compared to SAR 11.03 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.

 

Data showed that a total of 113.01 million transactions were processed in the week ending Oct. 9.

 

POS transactions represent what is spent by consumers using their ATM cards and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

All sectors witnessed a decrease in POS during the week ending Oct. 9, led by the education sector falling 33%. Furniture came second with a decline of 28%, followed by food and beverages sector (-23%).

 

Consumer spending focused on the food and beverages sector in the week, with nearly SAR 1.40 billion, representing 15% of POS transactions, followed by the restaurants and cafes sector with SAR 1.30 billion.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value with nearly SAR 2.88 billion, representing 31% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.43 billion.
