Saudi Arabia's Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) seeks to boost the private sector's contribution to water desalination in the Kingdom from two million cubic meters currently to 7 million by 2026, Asharq News TV channel reported, citing Abdullah Al-Zowaid, SWCC's Deputy Governor, Operations.

He added that investment in water desalination is open for investors from inside and outside the Kingdom, in coordination with Saudi Water Partnership Co. (SWPC).

SWCC also plans to increase the transportation system from 9 million cubic meters to 15 million, and the storage capacity from 14 million cubic meters to 25 million by 2023, Al-Zowaid said.

He noted that the corporation managed to cut the capital costs of water desalination by 30% and operational costs by 20% per a cubic meter of water over the past years.

The energy consumed in the process of desalinating water was also reduced by 40% to 2.27 kilowatts per a cubic meter of water.
