Electronic payment device
The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 10 billion in the week ending Nov. 6, from SAR 10.35 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that 118.1 million transactions were processed in the same week.
POS transactions represent what is spent by consumers using ATM cards and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

The food & beverages sector led decliners, falling 14%. It was followed by healthcare and telecommunications sectors, which fell by 5% each.
Meanwhile, the jewelry sector topped gainers, rising 8%, followed by hotels and furniture, which moved up 7% and 5%, respectively.
Consumer spending focused on the food & beverages sector in the week, with nearly SAR 1.47 billion, representing 15% of POS transactions, followed by the restaurants & cafes sector with SAR 1.41 billion.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value with nearly SAR 3.17 billion, representing 32% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.55 billion.
