The point-of-sale (POS) transactions rose to SAR 12.1 billion in the week ending Dec. 4 – the highest weekly POS transactions since May 2020 – from SAR 9.42 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that nearly 129.98 million transactions were processed in the week ending Dec. 4.
POS transactions represent what is spent by consumers using ATM cards and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

All sectors witnessed an increase in POS transactions during the week ending Dec. 4, except for education, which decreased by 13%.
Telecommunications topped the sectors with a rise of 38%, followed by hotels and clothes & footwear sectors with 36% each.
Consumer spending focused on the food & beverages sector in the week, with nearly SAR 1.74 billion, followed by restaurants & cafes sector with about SAR 1.7 billion.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value with nearly SAR 3.7 billion, representing 31% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.94 billion.
