Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) issued regulations on the entry of autonomous vehicles (AVs) into the Saudi market, Al Eqtisadiah newspaper reported.

SASO indicated that it hasn’t yet received any import requests from companies or individuals in this regard.

A number of entities, in addition to SASO, are mapping out initiatives to facilitate the entry of self-driving cars into the Saudi market, in support of the objectives of the AV strategy.

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, represented by the National Digital Transformation Unit, launched a strategy comprising several initiatives covering all regulatory and procedural aspects, to allow the entry of AVs into the Kingdom.
