The Saudi National Automotive Manufacturing Co. (SNAM), in cooperation with the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu (RCJY), mapped out a plan to move from car assembly to manufacturing, Sabq newspaper reported.

According to data available with Argaam, Ahmed Al Hussain, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of RCJY, laid the foundation stone for the first-of-its-kind passenger car assembly plant in Saudi Arabia.

SNAM CEO Fahad Al-Duhaish said this is the first step of the car assembly phase, with a technical license from the technical partner for two types of passenger cars, with local content of up to 15%.

In the second phase, the parts will be localized by 30-40% at RCJY, Al-Duhaish said, adding that 50% of the jobs will be Saudized as a first stage, indicating that the value of the first phase of the project stands at SAR 300 million.

SNAM signed an agreement in 2019 with Korea's SsangYong Motor to establish a car manufacturing plant in Jubail Industrial City II.
