MAWANI says containers handling reaches 819,000 TEUs in January

Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) stated that it recorded an increase in some operational indicators at local ports in January 2022.

 

In a statement, the authority indicated that the number of passengers grew by 48.28%, or 88,000, year-on-year (YoY) in January, while the number of livestock rose by 7.36%.

 

The general cargo volume increased by 5.34% YoY to about 25.4 million tons, while foodstuff cargo grew 2.06% YoY.

 

Meanwhile, the total number of containers handled at Saudi ports fell 7.22% to 819,200 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). Transshipment containers also declined by 2.41% to 448,000 TEUs.

 

The total vehicles cargo declined 6.3% to 71,000. In addition, the number of vessels went down 4.17% to 1,057, amid the challenges facing maritime transport and supply chains globally.
