Basic Chemical Industries Co. (BCI) said that the chlorine derivatives plant in Jubail Industrial City is 98% complete, and is expected to be finalized by Q2 2022, according to a bourse filing.
Power was supplied to the plant, and all construction, including engineering works, were completed. BCI indicated that trial operations began in some of the plant phases.
The project is behind schedule as the plant needs more time to finalize the trial operations. The relevant financial impact may appear on Q2 2022 financial statements, after completing the trial operations.
The project’s previously announced estimated costs are intact, as there is no change in work scope.
Operations in the plant are running around the clock to ensure the completion of the experimental phase, while maintaining quality and efficiency standards.
The project will operate with a production capacity of 70,000 tons in the first phase at an estimated cost of SAR 520 million, Argaam reported.
In March 2017, the company signed a contract with an Italian company to start implementing the first phase of the project.
In October 2017, BCI signed a letter of intent (LOI) with Nasser Saeed Al Hajri & Partners Contracting Co. for the construction of its chlorine derivatives plant at a total cost of SAR 290.4 million.
In June, the company expected to launch the project by the end of November 2021.
