Transport minister launches campaign to ensure safety of Kingdom's road network

Minister of Transport Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser launched the “Towards Distinguished and Safe Roads” Campaign for the second successive year, which aims to survey the entire 75,000 kilometer (km)-long road network in the Kingdom, with 5,000 bridges, in order to raise the level of safety on road networks outside the urban area.

 

Al-Jasser stressed that such initiatives are aimed to maintain the sustainability of the country's infrastructure and provide high-level efficiency road networks in order to maintain the Kingdom's leadership globally in the interconnection of the road network. He also added that such initiatives are meant to reach the sixth rank globally in the road quality index by 2030, in order to achieve the national strategic objectives of transport and logistics sector, Saudi Press Agency reported.

 

In the first edition of the campaign, the ministry conducted a major package of road network field examinations that exceeded 4,300 in 13 regions. In the previous campaign, and through a number of programs and initiatives, the ministry received more than 40,000 observations from various regions of the Kingdom, of which about 98% were processed, according to the minister.

 

The minister also noted that the campaign includes the participation of 600 employees and 136 university students under 112 contracts, adding that the campaign will continue until March 3.
