POS device
The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached SAR 10.81 billion in the week ended March 12, from SAR 12.02 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that 135.4 million transactions were processed in the week.
POS transactions represent what is spent by consumers using ATM cards and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

All sectors witnessed a decline in POS transactions during the week, except for hotels and clothing & footwear sectors, which rose by 18% and 0.4%, respectively.
The food and beverage sector fell the most at 21%, followed by telecommunications and health with a drop of 20% and 17%, respectively.
Consumer spending focused on the food and beverage sector in the week, with nearly SAR 1.6 billion, representing 15% of total sales, followed by the restaurants and cafes sector with SAR 1.5 billion.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value, with nearly SAR 3.4 billion, representing 32% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.71 billion.
