Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Abdulrahman Al-Fadhli said that the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) is working to produce and transport desalinated water up to 5.9 million cubic meters per day, with a transport capacity of up to 6.5 million cubic meters per day.

At the opening of the International Specialty Conference on Ocean Brine Mining organized by SWCC, Al-Fadhli said, the corporation, through its research arm, Institute for Research and Desalination Technologies, made determined efforts to develop the modeling of technical processes -- zero liquid discharge (ZLD) technology, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

ZLD is a unique process for economic extraction of minerals from reserve osmosis water. This will reflect in cost reductions and opening new horizons for investment, as global prices of some of these minerals have reached approximately $7,500 per ton.
