Saudi Arabian banknotes
The total value of assets held by investment funds in Saudi Arabia grew by 8% to SAR 227.2 billion in 2021, compared to SAR 209.7 billion a year earlier, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
The increase was spurred by a 32% rise year-on-year (YoY) in foreign assets to SAR 79.5 billion. On the other hand, local fund assets – which represent 65% of total assets – edged down 1% to SAR 147.7 billion, while assets of closed-end funds reached around SAR 29.3 billion.
Assets held by investment funds include local and foreign stocks, bonds, real estate investments among others.

The number of subscribers increased by 170,400 to its highest level in 16 years at 529,300 by the end of 2021, when compared to 2020.
