Fahad Shaya, CEO of Tatweer Educational Transportation Services Co., said that the establishment of the first bus manufacturing plant in the Kingdom will help realize Vision 2030 objectives for localization of promising industries. It will also raise local content in the bus industry by 30% to reach 60% by 2030.

The project will be important, as it will contribute to developing the local content of the transportation sector, and achieve the development goals of Vision 2030, including creating job opportunities, diversifying national economy and enhancing the efficiency of school buses, the state-owned SPA reported.

The first-of-its-kind plant in the Kingdom will produce buses using electric and hydrogen engines, in addition to international combustion engines. These buses will serve the sectors of education, Hajj and Umrah, public transportation and tourism. The project will be set up in Jeddah, Al Shaya added.

The Local Content and Government Procurement Authority (LCGPA) announced signing an agreement with Saudi Arabian Industrial Investments Co. (Dussur) on localization of the bus industry.
