POS device
The point-of-sale (POS) transactions amounted to SAR 14.05 billion in the week ending April 2, compared to SAR 10.67 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
The value of last week's transactions is the highest weekly figure recorded since SAMA began monitoring POS data.
Data showed that a total of 153.35 million transactions were processed last week.
POS transactions represent what is spent by consumers using their ATM cards and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

All sectors witnessed a rise in POS transactions during the week, except for education that fell 4%.
Food & beverages topped the list of risers, with a 62% increase, followed by telecommunications with 40%, then clothes and footwear with 36%.
Consumer spending focused on the food & beverages sector in the week, with nearly SAR 2.85 billion, representing 20% of POS transactions. It was followed by the restaurants & cafes sector with SAR 1.62 billion, or 12% of total spending.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value with nearly SAR 4.14 billion, representing 29% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 2.1 billion.
