POS device
The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached SAR 8.4 billion in the week ended May 7, from SAR 15.97 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
This is the lowest weekly POS transactions since the week ended Oct. 23, 2021.
Data showed that 120.15 million transactions were processed in the week.
POS transactions represent what is spent by consumers using ATM and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

All sectors witnessed a decline in POS transactions during the week, except for restaurants & cafes sector, which rose by 10%.
Education sector saw the steepest decline by 81%, followed by clothing & footwear and furniture sectors by 77% and 70%, respectively.
Consumer spending focused on the food & beverage sector in the week, with nearly SAR 1.83 billion, representing 22% of total sales, followed by the restaurants & cafes sector with SAR 1.34 billion accounting for 16% of total sales.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value, with nearly SAR 2.22 billion, representing 26% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.34 billion.
