Saudi holdings of US Treasuries retreat to $115.5 bln in March

Saudi Arabia’s holdings of US Treasuries declined to $115.5 billion in March, down $1.2 billion month-on-month, new data released by the US Treasury showed.

 

Accordingly, Saudi Arabia’s holdings recorded its lowest level in more than five years since January 2017, when it amounted to $112.3 billion at the time.

 

The Kingdom maintained its 18th position among the largest holders of US debt in March.

 

Saudi Arabia’s holdings of US Treasuries were distributed among long-term bonds worth $100.1 billion, representing 87% of the total, and short-term bonds worth $15.3 billion, accounting for 13%.

Japan was the top holder of US Treasury bonds in March with a value of $1.232 trillion, followed by China at $1.039 trillion, as the following table shows:
