POS device
The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached SAR 10.97 billion in the week ended May 28, from SAR 8.81 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that 139.38 million transactions were processed last week.
POS transactions represent consumer spending through ATMs and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

All sectors witnessed an increase in POS transactions during the week, except for education, which dropped by 10%.
Electronic and electric appliances was the top performer, rising by 69%. It was followed by clothing & footwear (38%).
Consumer spending focused on the food & beverages sector in the week, with nearly SAR 1.74 billion, representing 16% of total sales, followed by the restaurants & cafes sector with SAR 1.63 billion.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions in terms of value, with nearly SAR 3.36 billion, representing 31% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.68 billion.
