MAWANI says containers handling rises to 600,100 TEUs in May

Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) recorded in May a 1.38% year-on-year (YoY) rise in the volume of handled containers to 600,100 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).

 

Meanwhile, the number of outgoing containers rose 2.57% YoY to 175,960, while incoming containers inched lower by 0.64% to 176,980.

 

Initiatives launched as part of the National Transportation and Logistics Strategy helped provide competitive services in operation and handling, thus boosting the number of transshipment containers in Saudi ports to 247,170 — a 2.01% YoY increase.

 

The volume of containers handled at Saudi ports amounted to 21.04 million tons — a 23.70% YoY hike. General cargo volume witnessed a remarkable YoY growth of 21.86% to 810,240.

 

The volume of solid and bulk cargo rose 2.46% and 30.74% YoY to 4.17 million tons and 15.87 million tons, respectively.

 

The number of vessels surged 3.03% YoY to 1,020, while the number of vehicles was up 42.33% YoY to 81,700. Foodstuff cargo grew 6.50% YoY to 1.83 million tons.

 

Meanwhile, the number of passengers jumped 16.38% YoY in May to 54,910, while livestock cargo increased 181.64% YoY to 459,680.
