Prices of 144 Saudi goods, services rise in May

Prices of 21 goods and services in Saudi Arabia dropped year-on-year (YoY) in May 2022, while prices of 144 out of 169 goods and services rose, data issued by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) showed.

 

Out of the 91 food and beverages goods, local tomatoes recorded the biggest rise by 43.14% YoY, followed by local medium potatoes with a 39.51% increase YoY.

 

On the other hand, Indian cardamom and American cardamom saw the steepest decline YoY by 16.02% and 12.37%, respectively.

 

Meanwhile, prices of 36 construction materials increased YoY in May, while the prices of the remaining two materials declined during the same month.

 

Prices of 10 fodder and livestock products increased YoY during the month, while the price of one commodity decreased.

 

For clothes, eight items saw an increase in prices last month, while the remaining two declined.

 

In addition, two out of four personal services and goods saw a YoY rise in May, while the remaining two retreated.

 

Prices of all four detergents increased last month, compared to the same period a year earlier.

 

Elsewhere, two out of three healthcare services was up, and the remaining one declined.

 

Similarly, prices of one out of two services under the maintenance and repair of personal means of transportation grew in May YoY.

 

Prices of the two hotel and furnished apartment services rose YoY in May.

 

Under tobacco, prices of Marlboro cigarettes increased by 0.29% per pack YoY.
