POS device
The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached around SAR 9.93 billion in the week ended June 18, compared to around SAR 10.34 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that 135.21 million transactions were processed last week.
POS transactions represent consumer spending through ATMs and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

Electronic and electric devices sector led the decline, with a 30% drop. It was followed by education (25%), and, food and beverages (7%).
On the other hand, jewelry and hotels sectors took the lead among rising sectors with a 9% increase each, followed by clothing and footwear sector at 4%.
Consumer spending was focused on the restaurants and cafe sector in the week, at nearly SAR 1.47 billion, representing 15% of total sales, followed by the food and beverages sector with SAR 1.38 billion.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions in terms of value, with nearly SAR 3.16 billion, representing 32% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.6 billion.
