Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced the designs of The Line project in NEOM. The Line will represent a leading global model that ensures sustainability in harmony with nature.
In January 2021, the Saudi Crown Prince unveiled THE LINE project within NEOM.
The Line designs reflect the future of urban communities. The project will run on 100% renewable energy and 95% of land will be preserved for nature. People's health and wellbeing will be prioritized over transportation and infrastructure, unlike traditional cities.
The Line is only 200 meters wide, but 170 kilometers long and 500 meters above sea level. The Line will eventually accommodate nine million residents and will be built on a footprint of just 34 square kilometers. This will mean a reduced infrastructure footprint, creating never-before-seen efficiencies in city functions.
The ideal climate all-year-round will ensure that residents can enjoy the surrounding nature. Residents will also have access to all facilities within a five-minute walk, in addition to high-speed rail – with an end-to-end transit of 20 minutes.
The Line would achieved “ideal living” and address the urgent challenges facing humanity, Prince Mohammed bin Salman added.
He stated that The Line in NEOM would enhance the human livability and addresses the challenges that face the humanity, according to Saudi Press Agency.
The design would clarify the internal structure of the multi-layered city and address the problems of traditional flat horizontal cities, achieving harmony between urban development and preservation of nature.
“At NEOM, we strive to be at the forefront of providing new and innovative solutions, and today we are determined to implement the idea of ‘Building to the Top’ through a team led by NEOM and a group of the brightest minds,” the Crown Prince said.
The idea of layering city functions vertically, giving people possibility of moving seamlessly in three dimensions to access them is a concept referred to as Zero Gravity Urbanism.
“NEOM is one of the most important projects of the Saudi Vision 2030 and The Line is an affirmation of our firm commitment to presenting a project to the whole world, NEOM is a place for those who dream of a better tomorrow,” he said. The Line city designs will be fully digital.
