POS device
The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 11.42 billion in the week ended July 30, up from SAR 8.95 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that 147 million transactions were processed during the week.
POS transactions represent what consumers spend using ATM and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

Except for the jewelry sector, which saw a 9% decline last week, all sectors witnessed increased POS transactions.
The clothes and footwear sector took the lead among rising sectors at 40%, followed by the food and beverages sector at 39% and the recreation and culture sector at 38%.
Consumer spending focused on the food and beverages sector in the week at nearly SAR 1.76 billion, representing nearly 15.5% of total sales, followed by the restaurants and cafes sector at SAR 1.67 billion, or 14.7% of total sales.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in value terms with nearly SAR 3.3 billion, representing 29% of total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.73 billion.
