MAWANI says cargo volume rises 16% to 28 mln tons in July

Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) stated that cargo throughput at domestic ports increased 16% year-on-year (YoY) to 28 million tons in July 2022.

 

The general cargo volume witnessed remarkable YoY growth of 45.4% to 718,000 tons, the authority said in a statement.

 

Dry bulk cargo surged 30.3% YoY to 4.2 million tons, while liquid bulk cargo rose 19.1% to 16.3 million tons.

 

The number of containers handled rose 6.4% YoY to 641,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in July, from 602,000 TEUs a year earlier. Transshipments increased 9.5% YoY to 268,000 standard containers last month.

 

In addition, the number of vessels climbed 12%, or 123, to 1,140 in July, while automobile imports rose 31%, or 18,000 cars, to exceed 78,000.

 

The foodstuff volume jumped 40%, or 560,000 tons, YoY, to two million tons, the statement noted.
