POS device
The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 10.4 billion in the week ended Sept. 24, compared with SAR 10.2 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that 142.4 million transactions were processed during the week.
POS transactions represent what consumers spend using ATM and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

Some sectors saw an increase during the week, led by the hotels sector, which rose by 23% week-on-week (WoW). It was followed by electronics and electric appliances sector with a 21% WoW hike.
On the other hand, the education and the telecommunications sectors declined the most at 55% and 9%, respectively, from the week before.
During the week, consumer spending focused on the food and beverages sectors, reaching nearly SAR 1.51 billion, representing almost 15% of total sales, followed by the restaurants and cafes sector at SAR 1.42 billion.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions in value with almost SAR 3.28 billion, representing 31% of total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.65 billion, as indicated below:
