Unemployment rate among Saudis drops to 9.7% in Q2 2022: GASTAT

The unemployment rate among Saudis fell to 9.7% in the second quarter of 2022, compared to the previous quarter, data from the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) showed.

 

Accordingly, it fell to the lowest level since 2001, when it reached 8.3%. 

 

Unemployment rate among males and females decreased to 4.7% and 19.3%, respectively, in the three-month period.

 

Meanwhile, the overall unemployment rate in Saudi Arabia (for Saudis and non-Saudis) recorded 5.8% in the second quarter, down from 6% in Q1 2022. 

 

Among Saudi females, the participation rate rose to 35.6%, compared to 33.6% in the Q1 2022.

 

The employment-to-population ratio of Saudis rose to 46.8% on a quarterly basis in the same period.

Saudis account for 55.5% and 47.1% of the labor force in the public and private sectors, respectively. On the other hand, non-Saudis employed in the private sector made up 70%.
