The Council of Health Insurance (CHI) started, on Oct. 1, applying the new health insurance policy, while activating the updated benefits package, insurance coverage and pharmaceuticals guidelines.
Under the updated policy, Saudi Arabia added new benefits that aims to protect policyholders against diseases, curb complications, enhance access to services, improve quality and efficiency, as well as develop local content, the SPA reported.
The updated policy was adopted after a thorough study with all stakeholders and several workshops with all insurance relationship parties.
The CHI spokesperson, Nasser Al-Juhani, said the application of the updated benefits package and insurance coverage will largely contribute to increasing work efficiency in the sector.
He said that a number of updated benefits were added pertaining to exploratory preventive tests, diabetes, colon and breast cancer early detection, as well as kidney transplantation.
Moreover, the maximum coverage for mental health and hemodialysis was also raised, he added.
