Eastern Province Municipality starts trial ops of public bus transport project

The Eastern Province Municipality will start trial operations of the public bus transport project after receiving 85 buses.  

The move will come ahead of an official launch, the municipality said in a tweet.  

The primary transit routes will be within Dammam, Khobar, Dhahran and Qatif.  

The project includes eight lanes, covering a distance of 453 kilometers, with 212 bus stops.  

The Emirate of Eastern Province announced, on Jan. 23, the signing of a contract with Saudi Public Transport Co. (SAPTCO) to launch a public bus transport project in Dammam and Qatif for a period of five years.   

 The project value was SAR 149.6 million, inclusive of a 15% VAT, according to data available with Argaam.
