POS weekly transactions hit SAR 10.6 bln: SAMA

The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 10.60 billion in the week ended Nov. 12, compared to SAR 11.75 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.

 

Data showed that about 154.21 million transactions were processed during the week.

 

POS transactions represent what consumers spend using ATM and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

All sectors declined, except for the hotels rose by 2% week-on-week (WoW). The education sector was the biggest decliner, dropping 37%. It was followed by jewelry that fell by 18%.

 

During the week, consumer spending focused on the food and beverages sector, reaching nearly SAR 1.59 billion, representing almost 15% of total sales. It was followed by the restaurants and cafes sector at SAR 1.58 billion, representing 14.9% of sales.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions in value with almost SAR 3.40 billion, representing 32% of total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.59 billion, as indicated below:
