The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 9.8 billion in the week ended Nov. 19, compared to SAR 10.6 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that about 145.63 million transactions were processed during the week.
POS transactions represent what consumers spend using ATM and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

All sectors saw declines last week, except for the education and the telecommunications sectors, which rose by 21% and 9%, respectively.
The jewelry sector recorded the steepest decline by 10%. The food and beverages, clothes and footwear and miscellaneous goods and services sectors came next at 9%.
During the week, consumer spending focused on the food and beverages sector, reaching nearly SAR 1.45 billion, representing almost 14.8% of total sales. It was followed by the restaurants and cafes sector at SAR 1.44 billion, representing 14.6% of sales.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions in value with almost SAR 3.22 billion, representing 33% of total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.45 billion, as indicated below:
