ACWA Power Co. and Indonesia-based Pertamina New & Renewable Energy signed a joint development agreement to develop the core utilities supply for the Tuban Grass Root Refinery and petrochemical project, the company said in a statement.

The scope of the agreement comprises the development of a 575 megawatts power generation facility, a steam generation component with a capacity of 3,288 tonnes per hour and a water desalination plant with a total capacity of 363,480 cubic meters per day.

The Tuban facility in Java, eastern Indonesia, will produce aromatics and ethylene. It is expected to be operational by Q1 2027.

The Indonesian government has identified the Tuban project as a project of national strategic importance that will enable national energy security and advance the domestic petrochemical industry, the statement noted.
