Saudi Aramco discovered two new natural gas fields, Awtad and AlDahna, in the Eastern Region, state-owned SPA reported today, Nov. 30, citing Saudi Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman.

Awtad unconventional gas field was discovered southwest of Ghawar field, 142 kilometers (km) southwest of Al-Hofuf. Gas flowed from Awtad-108001 well at a rate of 10 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD), along with a daily 740 barrels of condensate. Meanwhile, gas flowed from the Awtad-100921 well at a rate of 16.9 MMSCFD, along with a daily 165 barrels of condensate.

Meanwhile, AlDahna unconventional gas field was discovered 230 km southwest of Dhahran. Gas flowed from AlDahna--4 well at a rate of 8.1 MMSCFD, and from AlDahna-370100 well at 17.5 MMSCFD. This is besides a daily 362 barrels of condensate.

Prince Abdulaziz said these discoveries will boost the Kingdom’s natural gas reserves. This would in turn support its strategies and help realize the objectives of the Liquid Fuel Displacement Program.
