POS device
The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 11.1 billion in the week ended Dec. 10, compared to SAR 13.7 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that about 153.09 million transactions were processed during the week.
POS transactions represent what consumers spend using ATM and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

Except for the education sector, which rose by 213%, all sectors saw a decline during the week.
The clothes and footwear sector registered the sharpest drop, falling 35%. It was followed by the hotels (-33%) and telecommunications (-28%) sectors.
During the week, consumer spending focused on the food and beverages sector, reaching nearly SAR 1.63 billion, or 14.8% of total sales. It was followed by the restaurants and cafes sector with SAR 1.59 billion, accounting for 14.4% of sales.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions in terms of value with almost SAR 3.65 billion, or 33% of total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.64 billion, as indicated below:
