POS weekly transactions drop to SAR 10.7 bln: SAMA

The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 10.7 billion in the week ended Dec. 17, compared to SAR 11.1 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.

 

Data showed that about 155.4 million transactions were processed during the week.

 

POS transactions represent what consumers spend using ATM and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

Majority of sectors saw declines during the week, led by education sector at 40%, followed by electronics and electric appliances as well as telecommunications sectors at 8% each.

  

During the week, consumer spending focused on restaurants and cafes sector, reaching nearly SAR 1.58 billion. It was followed by the food and beverages sector with SAR 1.56 billion.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions in terms of value with almost SAR 3.58 billion, or 33% of total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.55 billion, as indicated below:
