POS device
The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 9.74 billion in the week ended Dec. 24, compared to SAR 10.74 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that about 142.4 million transactions were processed during the week.
POS transactions represent what consumers spend using ATMs and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

All sectors saw a decline last week, led by the education sector, which fell 38%. It was followed by the clothes and footwear sector, dropping 14%.
During the week, consumer spending focused on the restaurants and cafes sector, reaching nearly SAR 1.44 billion, followed by the food and beverages sector with SAR 1.43 billion.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions in terms of value with almost SAR 3.3 billion, or 34% of total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.4 billion, as indicated below:
