Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture and Chairman of the board of directors of the Agricultural Development Fund, Abdulrahman Al Fadley, approved the expansion plan in the plant wealth and greenhouses sector with potential investments worth SAR 4 billion until 2025.
The plan aims to raise production capacity by encouraging adoption of modern technologies in the agricultural sector, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
The expansion scheme adopted during the period (2023-2025) will contribute to additional productivity estimated at 430,000 tons, bringing the total production capacity of greenhouses to more than one million tons annually, the minister said.
The new investments aim to achieve national food security, increase the contribution to local content, and provide job opportunities in line with the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, he added.
The step comes as an extension of the unlimited support that the agricultural sector in the Kingdom enjoys, as the value of loans provided by the Agricultural Development Fund in 2022 exceeded SAR 5 billion.
Greenhouse projects are one of the main sectors financed by the fund, Al Fadely added.
